Disney’s Mulan Deleted Scene: Reflection

In my opinion, deleting this scene from “Reflection” was a terrible mistake.  The song is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but this added part takes a somewhat disparing song and makes being different empowering and strong.

Yeah, Lea Salonga was heartbroken that they cut the song. I can understand why. This part is inspirational.

it is really pretty but i guess i can see plot/story/theme wise where it wouldnt fit in :(

wow this is gorgeous, it would have really changed the entire tone of her character, and the movie. I don’t know if I would have liked it more for it, it’s one of my favorite Disney films as it is

Oh gosh aaah this is wonderful. So sad they had to cut it, but I can understand why… If it was this long it would have really screwed up the pacing. :c

I don’t really LIKE this version. Really I think the way the final movie came out was perfect. Cause when you want to relate to someone who is having conflicts about being open about themselves to their family, why would riding across the country side really show the conflict she’s having? When you’re afraid to come out as who you are, wouldn’t you go to a quiet room where people wouldn’t bother you? Here she’s getting on a horse and being all epic like…that makes for a better scene for a film, but it really doesn’t seem realistic to the conflict she’s having. It says that she DOESN’T have a tendency to hide away from her problems, here she’s jumping on a horse and TACKING it on strong…Which, seems very silly…despite how beautiful this scene would’ve looked…

I do love the different conflict here though. She had a failed marriage, rather then a match maker flub. The conflict is better…And I think what fails in the original movie, is the conflict. None of us can feel what she feels cause there isn’t anything truly jarring about the steaks she’s in. The comedy side takes over the seriousness of it. In this deleted scene we also get a look at China too, where as what we got in the final film, is very white washed humor (jewish humor) and slap stick where it didn’t need to be. So I agree that this scene is good and better in some ways, but it doesn’t add to the subtlety of the scene we got…but not to say that the original did better.
