HH- Russel Don’t Drink by *anniemae04
So my character Russel, who I don’t really talk about as much but I do love him a lot. Part of the inspiration of my Haunted Hotel story comes from a dream where I enter the hotel after being stalked by someone out in the cold street, the hotel was my only safe place. However, this horrible presence stalked and terrorized me while I crawled up the stairs, yet once I reached the top, a voice from the bar behind me asked if I needed something to drink. And there he was, extending out a strong drink to ease the stress. We always dream about our knight in shining armor and certainly wanted to replicate that experience in the story. Even thought Russel doesn’t leave the bar section much, he’s still Milly’s only source of faithful company until she starts bringing in people to stay at the hotel, and even then she prefers to hang out with him. However, he’s been alone behind that bar stand for quite some time, who’s gonna stop him from taking a swig every now and then.
This is a set of drawings I did here to help work out his face and expressions some more so that he’s more active and ‘alive’ looking then I’ve drawn him in the past. I like where it’s going and I’m becoming more comfortable drawing him now, certainly as I’ve been fleshing out his personality in my head better. ONE DAY…I’ll share more with you…I’m just playing around more now.
I’ve drawn him up before here and I’ll post some more naughty stuff on this blog of mine as well in time. Enjoy.

![Much like the two model sheets I made for Milly and Grunder back in the day, I never got around to doing Russel’s, who is also an important character in the Haunted Hotel story. Read the parts I’ve done so far here:Part 1> [link]Part 2> [link]Part 3> [link]Part 4> [link]
So Russel is the night shift Bartender of the Hotel. He only appears in the same location behind the bar every night and does his best to assist Milly with managing the ghosts and her sanity. He is very self aware of his death but a few times he’ll still refer to events that happened many years ago as only a few weeks. He Being so self conscious allows him to learn and understand the things Milly tells him about the modern world, and the two of them end up getting along very well, which is something not many other ghosts in the hotel are able to do. While he has the benefit of remembering the present, his memories of the past only stand out as single photos in his mind. He remembers during his young adult years, being into rugby and moving to the city to help build the hotel. After the hotel was complete he needed the work so he became part of the night shift staff, and when nights would get too slow he’d sleep in the room closest to the bar without the original owner catching on.Russel doesn’t remember how he died, but he figured it was during the same massacre that Grunder caused. Milly remembered hearing how the bartender that night stopped Grunder by stabbing him in the back, yet Russel never remembered doing a thing like that. During her ownership of the hotel, Milly is able to find all the information she needs about the victims who had died there accept Russel. While his past is a mystery to her, she is more troubled at his personality shift during the night, as when morning comes he turns into a much more irritable and impatient person then compared to his easy going nature at the start of the night. While Russel is Milly’s only spirit friend she can trust, there is still a side to him that she won’t figure out until she can get him to remember who he was.](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9sxrtioE51ql1gdxo1_1280.jpg)
